La Fuerza Silenciosa
Monday, December 19, 2011 at 9:45AM Happy Monday!
About two weeks ago I posted about my time in Honduras working with the InsideOut project, and mentioned that I would be sharing a video:
I wanted to share an art project I am currently working on in Honduras with my friend, Alicia. We are working in collaboration with the Inside Out project (HTTP://WWW.INSIDEOUTPROJECT.NET/#) founded by the artist JR (HTTP://JR-ART.NET/). It is a large-scale photography project working all over the world to create new perspectives and community-esteem.
Alicia and I lived in El Progreso for a few years and although we worked with a variety of demographics we were continuously struck by the strength of the women in the community.
After learning that JR was looking for participants all over the world, we jumped at the chance to bring it to El Progreso in order to highlight these incredible women and give a new perspective. We returned to El Progreso in November and began taking pictures. Within two days friends were bringing us to women’s houses so they too could be photographed. It grew from a small community project to a citywide installation.
Because of all the excitement the project it taking on a new scope. We plan to paste 40 portraits on various walls throughout the city; some will be 3 ft x 4ft while other will be 14 ft x 22 ft.
Check back tomorrow for more exciting work from local artists.
peace,
Kat
Goodbye TGIWM, Hello Illustrators Social Club
Friday, December 16, 2011 at 10:00AM Over the past 2 years we have had a semi-regular Friday feature from our friends at Weekly Moleskine. However, in late October they posted the following:
"Thanks to the questionable business practices of Moleskine, we have decided to part ways with them. But, we aren't done drawing and we haven't finished trying to show you work by other talented artists. So you are now invited to become members The Illustrators Social Club."
Thus ending the reign of Weekly Moleskine and beginning in the reign of The Illustrators Social Club.

There is some really exciting stuff going on here! New artists, familiar illustrators who continue to get stronger and some really fun concepts. So, make suer you check them out.
If you have any illustrations, sketch-books, photos or other creative endeavors send them to kat@pickfresh.com and make sure to check out ISC!
Have a great weekend.
[DrTSF 28th Edition] Zandbroz Variety Photos
Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at 8:47AM Guten Morgen, Sioux Falls! The sun isn't shining, the birds aren't chirping, but we here at the GC Desk at are feeling great. Why? Because last nights drawntown was one of the most pleasant experiences. With hot coffee, cookies and creativity, the back room at Zandbroz become our own studio full of fun things to draw. But as you can see, the taxidermy black bear captured most of the attention:
Hunter decided to go against the grain and was making some great work inspired by the map rack:

There was also some Christmas shopping to be done. So, congrats to a few of you who finished all your shopping and wrapping last night.
Here are a few pics we grabbed of last nights event. Check back tomorrow for some fresh work from local artists.
Stay warm, stay foolish.
